Wednesday, 23 September

Hi Everyone,

Sorry, I’m feeling worse than yesterday, so I’m obviously not there today.

* Hand all mobiles to Mrs Potter or Mrs Lewis
* All tablet use is to be in the classroom today. Ensure that they get locked away before you go anywhere.
Beginning of the Day until Recess

Today is your last chance to complete the following activities:

  1. Maths
    • Complete, share and upload URL to Moodle
    • Review the games of three other people – this can be done individually
  2. History
    • Complete mind map – I would like to see quality; look at the examples on the wall near Ancient Rome
    • Respond to, or begin thinking about, the forum questions under ‘Outcomes and Assessment’
    • Develop your inquiry (ungoogleable) question and some of the secondary (googleable) questions that will help you to answer your main question.
  3. Code.org
    • This activity is called ‘The Hour of Code’ – because it should only take one hour to complete!

If you have completed all of this, you can either work on your Personal Learning Plans or begin researching your History question. If you are doing History, you need to either dot point (with key words) your notes or you can use the FERQ. I have given this to some of you previously, but if you need a blank copy or would like to look at it, see Mrs Potter or Mrs Lewis.

If you don’t understand how to do something, there are plenty of people in our room who could help you – please ask them. I’m happy for you to email me if you need anything.

RoboCup people – please continue working on this today!

Recess to Lunch

Cooking and Gardening

Have a good day and be good 🙂

See you tomorrow afternoon… Miss Andrews

Monday 15 June

Hi Everyone,

I’m away sick today, so here are the plans for the day…

8:45am: Come in, get organised and catch up

9am: Team Meeting

9:35am: Visual Arts

11:05am: Recess

11:30am: Silent Reading

11:50am: Maths – Reflections, Rotations and Translations

  • In pairs, design a logo for our class room using reflections, rotations and/or translations. Think about the words, colours and images that would represent our class. You can use graph paper.
  • Google “reflections maths”, “rotations maths” and “translations maths” if you are not sure what any term means. I’m sure your teacher or other people in the class could help you as well.

12:50pm: Eating – in your seats

1pm: Lunch

1:30pm: History

  • In pairs or groups of three, research some other inventions that were created by the Ancient Romans, Greeks, Egyptians, Chinese and Indians. ‘Ancient’ means 60000BCE – 650CE. When you are using Google, search for key words rather than questions, such as, “Ancient Rome inventions” or “Ancient China discoveries”. Record what the invention was, which civilisation/s invented or discovered it and how we use it today. Find at least one invention / discovery from each civilisation.

2:30pm: Pack Up / Fitness

I hope you have a great day! See you tomorrow 🙂

  • In groups, create a question using the same format as your personal learning topic: “How might I ACTION THAT for WHOM in order to / so that CHANGE SOMETHING?”
  • 100 ideas in 10 minutes: Record as many ideas as possible (aim for 100) to answer your question.

9:35am: Buddy Class with Ms Binder / Mother Tongue

10:20am: Continue with Failure = Success / Jason L & Rose go to Guitar lessons

11:30am: Silent Reading

11:50am: Maths

12:30pm: Fitness

1:30pm: Civics & Citizenship

  • Use this time to complete your assignment. It’s due TOMORROW!

** The following people must complete a Literacy Pro Test today: Que Anh, Quyen, Blake, Jason L and Riley.

Monday 25 May with Mr Uzelac

Hi everyone,

I will be taking five students from the Blue Building to the next RoboCup Junior workshop today, so Mr Uzelac will be with you. Keep up the great work you have been doing with relief teachers!

8:45am: Unpack and catch up with everyone from the weekend

9am: Team Meeting

9:30am: Creative Writing

  • Use the below prompt to write a creative piece of writing. Aim to write at least 100 words.
  • Before you begin writing, I want you to consider the following things:
    • What is the purpose of your text? To entertain, to describe, to inform, to instruct….
    • Who is your audience? Young children, teenagers, adults, boys, girls… your text will be different depending on who you are writing for.
    • What form of writing will you use? Short story, interview, journal, poetry, fable, newspaper article, letter, etc. You are not restricted to any of these.
    • Brainstorm your ideas. Spend about 5-10 minutes on this.
  • After you have completed the pre-writing tasks, you can start your first draft. Focus on doing the things that we have talked about: punctuation (capital letter at the beginning of a sentence, full stop / question mark / exclamation mark at the end of a sentence, quotation marks for dialogue); simple, compound and complex sentences; descriptive writing, word choice.

Whilst on a walk, you discover a mouse-sized elephant with butterfly ears flitting among some flowers. You could write a story about your encounter with this creature, you could write a poem about it, you could write a (fictional) information text about this new species… and so on.

  • Read through the text, “How Does Electricity Flow” and then answer the set questions. Mr Uzelac will give the the sheet.

11:30am: Building Maths

12:50pm: Eat lunch in your seats

1:30pm: Spelling / Literacy Pro Test

Wednesday 8/4/2015

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately, Miss Jasmin was asked to work in another class today, so you’ll have someone else – I don’t know who at this stage. I know that you will treat him/her with respect. You have lots of work to do today, so please make sure that you make the most of it.

8:50am: Buddy Reading with Ms Nektaria’s and Mrs Cedar’s classes

9am: Writing

Complete your final genre writing piece on your chosen topic.

9:45am: Independent Learning Time

Everyone, except for Niko (who was absent), has planned out their day and how they will use their Independent Learning Time. Keep your schedule on your table, so that the teacher can see what you have planned to be doing. Feel free to change this if you need to, but record on the slip what you actually did and leave it on my desk.

The following items are due on Friday:

  • Science Spelling – Weeks 10 and 11
  • Blogging – 5 Tasks listed on previous post
  • Writing – final genre piece
  • Reading Reflections
  • Literacy Pro quizzes – Boy Overboard must be done; any other books that you have read

The following items will be due early in Term 2:

  • Science – Resource Research (rubric will be handed out today – please GLUE into your book!)
  • History – Migration Museum task

There is also the FreeRice challenge – we now have 37 950 grains donated!

Your ability to work successfully during Independent Learning Time will help me to see how well you will manage with 1:1 devices, as some of our learning will be similar to today’s structure. I know that you are all capable of doing this 🙂

11:30am: P.E. with Mr Chatto

12:50pm: Eating Time – in class room and at seats (no couch)

1:30pm: Silent Reading

1:50pm: Independent Learning Time

The teacher will hand out a note to you about shared lunch on Thursday – please apologise to your parents for the short notice.

I hope that you all have a wonderful day 🙂

Wednesday with Miss Jasmin

As you know, Mrs Potter, Mrs Lewis, Mr Featherby, Mr Foale and I are all out of the classroom, so that we can get ready for Term 2 and start organising our Moodle! Today, you have Miss Jasmin – I know you’ll be great for her 🙂 Your tasks for today:

8:50am: Buddy Reading with Ms Nektaria’s and Mrs Cedar’s classes.

9am: BTN

Watch and discuss this week’s episode (Episode 9)

9:45am: NAPLAN Spelling Practice

The Year 7 Language Conventions test will be displayed on the board. In the back of your Spelling book, answer each question as best you can. Questions 1 – 16 will have the incorrectly spelled word circled; you need to write it correctly in your Spelling book. For Questions 17 – 30, you will need to work out which word is spelled incorrectly, and then spell it correctly in your Spelling book. I have left some copies of the Year 9 Language Conventions test for a small group of people – you need to record the correct spellings in your Spelling book, but can work on it in the common area.

10:15am: Science – Renewable Resources Research

In groups of four, research your renewable resource using the following headings:

  • The positive aspects of using this resource
  • The negative aspects of using this resource
  • Interesting facts about this resource
  • Any questions you might have about this resource
  • List of people who contributed to the development of this resource

You need to work as a collaborative group. Discuss your topic and decide how you are going to divide the workload. Allocate tasks for each member and share information.

Your research groups are as follows (NO CHANGES):

Research_Groups

Gather as much information as you can today, and then next week, I’ll explain the assessment criteria and what you will be doing with the information.

11:30am: P.E. with Mr Chatto

1:30pm: Silent Reading

1:50pm: Climate Change Mind Mapping

Continue working on your Mind Map for Climate Change. You can use the internet to research more information about the causes and problems associated with climate change, but YOU need to create YOUR OWN ideas for the solutions… What can we do as individuals? As a school community? As a wider community? Think big!

Mind Mapping

If Miss Jasmin thinks that you have worked really well today, you will be able to go out for an extra 15-20 minutes of fitness… there’s an incentive for you!

Have a great day 🙂

Miss Andrews
