100 Word Challenge

This week’s Writing Prompt comes from the people at 100 Word Challenge. You have 100 words to write a text that includes the following:

… She just wouldn’t stop crying…

Think about who ‘she’ is and why she wouldn’t stop crying. You can add a visual to support your text, so long as you reference it correctly.

Please post your text to your blog.

Have fun!

Miss Andrews

Writing Prompt

Use the below writing prompt from Writing Forward to write a text of your choice. You might like to write a narrative or a poem about what is happening; you could write an information text about astronauts, space and/or other planets; or, you could write a persuasive text around space. The choice is yours. No more than 250 words, posted to your own blog. Ensure that you have spent time with me or Miss Noack editing your work prior to posting.

Wednesday, 23 September

Hi Everyone,

Sorry, I’m feeling worse than yesterday, so I’m obviously not there today.

* Hand all mobiles to Mrs Potter or Mrs Lewis
* All tablet use is to be in the classroom today. Ensure that they get locked away before you go anywhere.
Beginning of the Day until Recess

Today is your last chance to complete the following activities:

  1. Maths
    • Complete, share and upload URL to Moodle
    • Review the games of three other people – this can be done individually
  2. History
    • Complete mind map – I would like to see quality; look at the examples on the wall near Ancient Rome
    • Respond to, or begin thinking about, the forum questions under ‘Outcomes and Assessment’
    • Develop your inquiry (ungoogleable) question and some of the secondary (googleable) questions that will help you to answer your main question.
  3. Code.org
    • This activity is called ‘The Hour of Code’ – because it should only take one hour to complete!

If you have completed all of this, you can either work on your Personal Learning Plans or begin researching your History question. If you are doing History, you need to either dot point (with key words) your notes or you can use the FERQ. I have given this to some of you previously, but if you need a blank copy or would like to look at it, see Mrs Potter or Mrs Lewis.

If you don’t understand how to do something, there are plenty of people in our room who could help you – please ask them. I’m happy for you to email me if you need anything.

RoboCup people – please continue working on this today!

Personal Investigations

This term, we have been investigating topics that interest us. Through doing this, we have learned research, mind mapping and questioning skills. After spending some time identifying topics that we are interested in, we immersed ourselves in our chosen area. We shared our learning with a couple of people, which helped to clarify our ideas. We worked on developing a deep level question; a question that could not be answered by a simple Google search. Our question will require us to do a lot of the thinking with some support from Google. Here are our questions:

  • Emma: How might I design a backyard for people with disabilities so that they do not injure themselves?
  • Priyana: How might I raise awareness about child labour for Australian consumers in order to prevent them from purchasing clothing made by children?

  • Niko: How might I design a robot for people with hearing problems so that it translates English into AUSLAN?
  • Andy: How might I design a nuclear fusion reactor for scientists so that we can begin to use this form of energy?

  • Judy: How might I create a healthy menu for a takeaway restaurant in order to reduce obesity in people who are time-poor?
  • Jess: How might I create an animation for Year 6 students to raise their awareness of the impact of tornadoes on communities?
  • Rose: How might I design a game for upper primary students so that they understand the causes and effects of the endangerment of a language has on the world?

Super Six Sevens

Monday 15 June

Hi Everyone,

I’m away sick today, so here are the plans for the day…

8:45am: Come in, get organised and catch up

9am: Team Meeting

9:35am: Visual Arts

11:05am: Recess

11:30am: Silent Reading

11:50am: Maths – Reflections, Rotations and Translations

  • In pairs, design a logo for our class room using reflections, rotations and/or translations. Think about the words, colours and images that would represent our class. You can use graph paper.
  • Google “reflections maths”, “rotations maths” and “translations maths” if you are not sure what any term means. I’m sure your teacher or other people in the class could help you as well.

12:50pm: Eating – in your seats

1pm: Lunch

1:30pm: History

  • In pairs or groups of three, research some other inventions that were created by the Ancient Romans, Greeks, Egyptians, Chinese and Indians. ‘Ancient’ means 60000BCE – 650CE. When you are using Google, search for key words rather than questions, such as, “Ancient Rome inventions” or “Ancient China discoveries”. Record what the invention was, which civilisation/s invented or discovered it and how we use it today. Find at least one invention / discovery from each civilisation.

2:30pm: Pack Up / Fitness

I hope you have a great day! See you tomorrow 🙂

Indian Flatbread and Asian Coleslaw

Gardening

The Sunflower Group worked with Miss Emma in the garden on Wednesday. We added pea straw to some of our garden beds, watered the plants and worked on the compost bin.
